On the other hand, they argued if Victorio was defeated the Chiricauhua Apaches would want all the saddles. For these and probably other reasons, Terrazas announced that he had orders to not allow the Americans to remain on Mexican soil, and so the rangers and the United States troops withdrew, while Terrazas and his Mexicans met Victorio at
