because to support the "Mexican Madonna" Selena wore "sexy" outfits and would dance and sing much like Madonna, that's your support and that's your reason. Another sub that should be on the article is "Music Styles" because even though Selena is the "Queen of Tejano Music" she ventured out of that genre and was heading for an English crossover that would had given her the now "Beyonce" and "Britney Spears". Selena also began her career in English pop and Rock N' Roll then she entered the world of Polka and Spanish. Selena in the early 90's began singing Latin Freestyle songs such as "My Love" and "Enamorada De Ti" are perfect examples but shortly after the rise of those singles she stopped, and again I gave my support and reasons with examples. Another sub that should be added in this article is "Products and endorsements" because Selena in the beginning was given the opportunity to sing live in the Johnny Canales Show in 1985. In 1989, Selena was singed to endorse Coca-Cola. In 1992, Selena was a spokeswoman for battered woman, she helped out with the homeless, gave free concerts, and she won an award for the "Toys for Tots" program. In 1994, Selena was helping out for the AIDS/HIV funds and she was already helping out in charities. Selena had five sets of perfume, Nail polishes, a clothing line, two boutiques, fashion shows, and she had dolls of her self. Again I gave my reasons and support that I gave examples. So I will be re-creating and adding MORE information to this article

what they are talking about. Entire populations have been misled, deceived, or even bought off or threatened, and sometimes individuals need to make calls on their own (that's what we HAVE functions like Move for, so not everything is swamped by bureaucracy) If it is an issue to anyone ELSE in this talk room, it will be set up. Otherwise, we already know the answer to the consensus: an idea that few people care strong about will get categorically rejected. Another reason I loathe consensus, the things I actually do get fired up about, nobody else ever seems to care about. So I'll open the floor. Because I don't get most of the WP processes, if anyone else wants this, let them run through due process to start the consensus and respond below me.

this sentence was placed at the end of a paragraph describing what she'd done in 1986, two years later. The part on Johnny could be moved up earlier in the article, of course, but I'm not sure I see his significence. Rick Trevi isn't named at all in the source cited, so I can't figure out where that belongs in the article. They should probably be mentioned

The file is Image:Selena statue closeup.jpg -- I remember reading something about statues on public display being OK to use, but I can't find it now, so it may end up having to come off Commons if they determine it's not acceptable for their purposes. Nonetheless, it would qualify to be used in this one article under

different reference is needed. If it means that this is the movie in which Lopez was first payed the salary of a big-time star, this reference will work, but either way, the statement in the article needs to be rephrased for clarity. (And based on the context in the article, the first meaning would make more sense.)

Inheritance, and from films too), and actually prevents new articles from forming. At the very least, reverse the redirect since it's backwards. It makes more sense to "oh, I dunno her name so I type in Selena" and get redirected to one of the more common choices than to type in the exact name and get redirected.

The entire reason I have done the "copy-and-paste" as you put it instead of simply rename by moving is due to that I never used it, and therefore didn't notice. And I do not believe in consensus anyway, although you are welcome to try. Consensus is a fallacy that the masses rather than the few know

for re-creation because there aren't any reasons or support on why Selena is known as the Mexican Madonna? Please people I am a huge fan of Selena and please give reasons and support your answers. Selena accomplished more in her 15 years of music. There should also be a "stage" part in this article
1591:
What didn't you think? That anyone would change the name of the article? Of course they wouldn't ... if someone looks up "Selena" as a standalone word, this article is probably what they are looking for, and it has a link to the other uses at the top. No one is going to come here looking for Sailor

I finally found a solid reference to back up that her father was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and added it. However, someone needs to go back in and make the citation format of my reference consistent with the other references; I don't want to mess up a featured article! For now, I added a "fact"
427:
I'll say so it sinks in. Make it Selena something. Selena is actually and AKA for Selene the moon goddess which is the original use of the word. Selena is also what Sailor Moon's name should be. There should be a disambiguation page for this not a "well she must be the ONLY person with the name

The confusion may come as well from attempts to preserve or acknowledge the Hispanic double-surname tradition. If the article is correct that her mother's maiden name was Perez, then she would be Selena Quintanilla Perez from birth under that tradition, even though in her case the actual history of

the article claims Selena to be "one of the most or perhaps the most successful Latin female singer ever". the metrics given for that are awards, billboard positions and album sales. By all those metrics, she's not even close to those of Shakira (and probably a few others as well). I'll modify the
1222:
First of all, this is the most IGNORANT post I have ever seen. She is considered MEXICAN-AMERICAN. The people know her as this, and including the media. It's like you don't want her to be known as Mexican? She is Mexican before American, you need to stop trying to make her seem as just "American".

I disagree, though perhaps I should have specified "Hispanic-American", as opposed to "Hispanic", which is too general. Selena is unarguably an icon with the Latino community. According to Nielsen Soundscan, she is one of the top five selling Latino artists of all time. Can anyone possibly discuss

I don't care if it's a featured page, make that a featured page. The way it's linked blocks out a disambiguation page and a couple dozen other things. It's awkward, unnecessary, and rather forced to decide that this is the only Selena in existence (there is also a Selena from 28 days later, from

In the opening of the Selena article in the second paragraph, there is a sentence that isn't making any sense to me: "On April 12, 1995, two weeks after her death, , declared her birthday "Selena Day" in Texas." In the square brackets "...George W. Bush, then the governor of Texas...", I think it

Selena is just as American as anyone else born and raised in the United States. Calling her Mexican-American is ridiculous, as she is not from Mexico. I notice no white Americans ever have to be hyphenated in Knowledge, so why does Selena? Let's move on from the hyphenations, as all it does it
644:
The problem here is that this was just sort of dangling at the end of a paragraph, without making it clear when these people discovered her or how it was important. Well, it does mention when Johnny first interviewed her, but that doesn't help; it says he interviewed her when she was twelve, but
399:
her using that name does date only to her marriage to Chris Perez. Many Southern women, in particular, convert their maiden name into a middle name upon marriage (I know I did), and of course, this is one common practice for celebrity women who marry after becoming famous under a previous surname.
749:
First, this doesn't say anything about Selena's fans supporting the movie; a reference for that would be in order. Second, "elevated her career" is an odd phrase, and I can't figure out quite what it means. If its supposed to mean that this was the movie that propelled her into the big-time, a

The dablink currently reads "For the movie, see Selena (film). If you were looking for "Selina", see Catwoman." Do people actually come here looking for the Batman character? My second guess for the use of Selena would have been a version of the name of the moon, not a fictional character, if an

The Thompson/Gale article (currently footnote 6) appears rather heavily used, down to the puzzling assertion in both places that Selena's "Dreaming of You" debuted at No. 1, but was the second highest debut after Jackson's "HIStory." How can a No. 1 debut be "second" highest? And was "HIStory"
824:
Her father is Mexican-American (don't know where this bit claiming he was born in Mexico comes from). I have never heard of her mother being Panamanian before someone put it into the article this week; I've looked online but been unable to confirm where her mother was born. I'll keep looking.
1115:. The term refers not simply to naturalized citizens born in Mexico, but more broadly to any American whose family is historically of Mexican origin. (3) Regarding "just as American as anyone else ...", it's questionable to insist that noting one's family origin implies being somehow 680:. From site: "While the rest of the Quintanilla clan relocated in Corpus Christi, Selena and her siblings hit the road, performing throughout southern Texas as Selena y Los Dinos ("Selena and the Boys"). They played at weddings and in cantinas and honky-tonks to very small audiences" 1171:. It is common knowledge that those who are born in America are known as Americans. Calling her a American-Mexican or Mexican American would make sense if her mother gave birth to her on the very border of both countries, which, needless to say never happens. Selena is an American. 459:

I find it hard to believe that there nobody has found a free image of Selena despite her immense popularity. Surely someone must have taken a picture of her at some concert and released the photo under a free license, right? I guess we could always ask
619:
While copyediting I ended up removing a few things to try and improve flow. Since one was a somewhat long and (sort of) sourced sentence, I thought I'd move it here in case someone can fit it or its basic contents somewhere else in the article:
1308:
Can we find any sources for that? It seems like it belongs in the article, but we need a source. I couldn't find any mention of a cash cow here or of Abraham Quintanilla being a greedy SOB. Perhaps there is an article in Greedy SOB Magazine?

In an interview Selena said she recorded her first record when she was 9. In her posthumous album "A Traves De Los Anos" one song on the track list is "Feelings" which is a bonus track of Selena when she was 9.
1414: 169:
This is an article which will need moving, sysops. Should go under Selena Quintanilla. It will need a big makeover from someone qualified to do it to reassign it from hagiography to encyclopedia article.

Agreed. It seems someone cut and pasted large chunks of information found on other Selena related websites. I think copyright violations have taken place. We should try and clean up the entire article.

Nonetheless, certainly a comparison to similar articles on singers would suggest that there's an argument for going with "American" in the first sentence and saving "Mexican-American" for later.

The song Amor Prohibido is about her grandparents and the fact they it was a mixed couple...had it been a Mexican who marries a Native American..it would have never been forbidden
1099:(1) Your premise of "no white Americans ever have to be hyphenated in Knowledge" is shaky on many levels. Even if we lay aside the whole issue of "define 'white'" — after all, 564:
