Barren sand dunes are interlaced with a few wadis. Incidence of mean annual rainfall is very scanty of about 50 millimetres (2.0 in) only during July and August. An escarpment opens into a north-facing gorge which is of 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) in length where there are six large ponds sourced by springs.
