7079:: Thank you for your explanations. I'm rather confused about the categories. I'm pretty certain all the articles we create under "Books by women" will have subcategories relating to the two you mention. Will those be acceptable too? What is perhaps more important to address is individual participation. From the link we have included to your Campaign on our meetup page, if I click on Participate I find explanations as at how how groups can set up their own dashboard but it is difficult to see how individuals can join or submit their articles directly to a central dashboard (if one exists). Perhaps this could be clarified on your site or perhaps you could provide explanations here which we could add to our meetup page. I'm afraid I am not ready to take personal responsibility for all participants/articles stemming for WiR's focus on "Books by women". I hope we can find a straightforward solution. As you can see, we've devoted considerable time an effort to measures liable to contribute to your Campaign. It would be a pity if our contributions are not taken into account.-- 2498:, but my confusion actually stems from the relationship between "Feminism and Folklore" and Art&Activism which we have traditionally reserved for Women's History Month in March. Art&Activism has always led to enthusiastic participation. In March 2020, when the two were combined, we had 97 new or improved articles on Art&Activism but only eight on Folklore. One more major area of interest in February would tend to reduce involvement in the other priorities. That is why I suggested early on that we should include your initiative in the announcements on our invitation for February and make it a specific priority for March. If the "Feminism" aspect is intended to cover all other women's interests, it could possibly be combined with our priority for Women's History Month (where it has been suggested we should focus on Artists and Activists). You are of course always welcome to draw on and share our resources such as our redlists on folklore and related arts and crafts.-- 2940:: I really appreciate your emphasizing Italian women once more but your last comment leaves me rather confused. Are you suggesting we should shelve Italian women for the time being or do you think it should be somehow re-introduced at a later date? And if we are going for the Caspian and other seas for future geofocus topics (I certainly support this suggestion and also like Francophones and other language groups), does that mean there's no interest in my cities proposal or simply that no one noticed it? I really think we need to be more careful about how this section is presented. Pertinent suggestions seem to get lost in the confusion between "Firming up" and comments elsewhere. There also seems to be some confusion between items on our main WIR talk page and how they are introduced here (e.g. casting directors, etc.). There's also the matter of our contest which now seems to have been forgotten. As I think all this deserves attention, I'm also inviting reactions from 3129:
Diplomacy, covering interesting women from a variety of countries. I'm also happy to have been able to encourage so many contributors to join our project (already 14 this month), especially as quite a few of them have become really active. More generally, it also looks to me as if 2023 is getting off to a good start with 1,042 new women's biographies by 23 January compared to 917 on 23 December and 846 on 23 November. I hope we can maintain this positive trend by making sure editors are not faced with unreasonable reactions when learning how to edit or trying to contribute new articles and by letting seasoned contributors know how much we appreciate their efforts to write or improve articles about women. So all in all, despite some of my reactions to comments on this page, it really looks to me as if we can look forward to a bright future.--
3044:. I realize you are attempting to be diplomatic but what exactly would a "broader" geo topic look like? As far as I know, there is no Italian equivalent to Francophones and Italians would hardly feature strongly in the suggested sea-based "Mediterranean". I now realize it was a mistake for me to bring this up but I thought I should respond to Lajmmoore. To facilitate further progress in February, I bow to those who support an empty geofocus slot in the hope that it can indeed be filled with black women from around the globe. Rather than making any further comments on this page, I will simply try to write more articles about women in the slots that happen to be approved. Don't get me wrong. I think it's great that we have so many new suggestions as to how we should go forward. And I really appreciate the time and effort 2469:. We can encourage users to create articles using the list. Also we can provide an additional list if required. We will also be sharing this via social media channels for that we need a page so that we could redirect them to the WIR page for the contest. Regarding the timelines, WIR team is independent to organize it in Feb and March both or either. We will also be sharing a message to organisers soon to input their local prize requirements. We shall also support with the local winning prizes. @ 4074: 4158:
craft collection - glass artists, ceramists, textile artists, jewelers, and so forth. And the National Museum of Women in the Arts has a large collection of art books - book artists seem to be a wildly underrepresented discipline here. I've often thought it might be interesting to try and make inroads in some of these fields. Especially given the fact that the two museum collections should each convey automatic notability, good for at least putting together a stub article. --
44: 6283:: Your list already seems very useful to me but if you can finish checking out the DABs, etc, by 1 April, then I think it would be an extremely useful resource for the Every Book campaign. As far as I can see, up to now they have had no special focus on women. I agree that Rosie's templates also offer opportunities and above we have a few other suggestions on how to provide more focus on women. Maybe we could bring this all together on one crowd-sourced page.-- 1406: 3218:, for getting the ball rolling. How about going for cities, perhaps starting with capitals? We could take them by region, for example "Women from the Nordic capitals" (i.e. Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm). In addition to our red lists, we could look at the corresponding city-related listings and category lists in the appropriate languages. I'm pretty sure we could find lots of interesting women who have not yet been covered in English.-- 5530: 5224: 5197: 5185: 5176: 5162: 5145: 5133: 5121: 5109: 5095: 5083: 5069: 5057: 5043: 5031: 5013: 5001: 4986: 4974: 3696: 3685: 3673: 3664: 3650: 3635: 3623: 3609: 3597: 3579: 3567: 3553: 3541: 3527: 3515: 3500: 3488: 1636: 1625: 1613: 1569: 1557: 1543: 1531: 1517: 1505: 1487: 1475: 1459: 1447: 1432: 1420: 625: 605: 591: 582: 568: 553: 541: 526: 514: 495: 483: 467: 455: 440: 428: 5916:, you have a sensible pragmatic solution here. I agree that an announcement is the best solution for April but I think we should seriously consider making "Books by women" a specific focus for one of the coming months. I would be happy to start compiling a separate list of pertinent new articles beginning on 1 April unless there are any objections. I've just noticed, by the way, that two of our most recent DYKs, 6652:! Glad to see you here. While I serve on the WMF Board of Trustees, I am only able to serve as an advisor at WiR vs. an active role. Women in Red being a "flat" organization, everyone is empowered to take the lead once in a while. So it would be much appreciated if you or others from the main team encouraged folks to add themselves to the event/program. Thank you kindly! -- 4758:. and 2. She had been just been let down as a speaker at an event and found herself free. She loves our project. I suggested we need a prestigious location and a trainer. She has offered her Inn or her Chambers in London. I'm asking here for a trainer and I've asked WMUK. Expenses (at least!) would be available. Keen to see this as a WIR event. Is it possible to extend our 1580: 6919:, perhaps the red-linked titles should be copied out into that page as a new section "NYPL 365 books for IWD 2017"? But then we'd lose the redlinked authors ... ? (There are so many titles on that list already that I don't think I'd have bothered to work up the NYPL list if I'd known we had such a rich resource already. My fault for not checking our files.) 7171:
we determine more categories need to be added then we can do that, easily. Even after the program begins. If we change the categories halfway into April, the dashboard will go back and capture all the data. I'm having difficulty explaining, I admit. This is where typing isn't quite sufficient to make sure I'm making myself understandable. My apologies.
1331:. In a nutshell, it looks like we have lost the technical ability to create a list of women falling into public domain. Not quite a redlist because many of the artists already have articles. That coupled with the fact that PD law differs from country to country brought our plans for a PD 2022 event to a halt. It is still a great idea though. 2447:: I must say I am becoming increasingly confused about this. As far as I can see from the discussion above, there was little interest in folklore in previous years with only 14 articles in 2022 and only 15 articles in 2021. It had been our intention to address Feminism and Folklore in March. Would this not be a reasonable solution?-- 6507:

5704:
I think the book article idea is an interesting one, but I don't think there are any redlists etc that we could use as a foundation for an event. I think it should probably be in the announcements section. Does anyone know of specific guidance on how to write articles about books (plot summary etc.)?

has done a wonderful job of adding fair use images to artists from that show. The checklist was a great resource, but I cannot find a way to filter for just the Renwick's collection on the SAAM site. Is there a redlist somewhere for Renwick artists? Also, I would be very interested in working on book
2615:
Just FYI, WiR has participated in the Folklore event for a few years now, and has never had "judges". The Folklore Team doesn't seem to mind that we write but don't judge (e.g., who wrote how many articles). I should have mentioned this earlier; sorry about that. I hope this doesn't get in the way of

I feel the paragraph about the link to the Dashboard might be better placed under the Participants heading. I know that I tend to dive in without reading the whole of the introduction to each event and it would be a shame if members' contributions are not counted in the #EveryBookItsReader campaign.
5897:
Well, if wishes were horses... Somebody's gonna have to step up and take ownership of turning this into an event if it is going to happen. I don't see how that would be, so in lieu of someone from the group taking this on I think it best to use the announcement and monthly tip. I would really prefer

I think I know why you were having trouble finding Renwick artists on the SAAM site - they just redesigned their website so searching the collection directly through their site doesn't have great functionality right now. But you can definitely use the main Smithsonian collection search and search by

Hi all, I'm sorry I'm behind on the conversation. I am only able to check this conversation this one time today, and will check again later this evening. The categories captured by the dashboard drill down 3 subcategory levels (that is the most the Programs/events dashboard will allow). However, if

Apologies for losing track on this - it's been a difficult few weeks. I'm glad to hear that we've finally got a list to work from, as well as some other sources to play with. Hopefully I can be a little more present in the next few weeks. As to the Chen show...I honestly don't remember, sorry. Much

Apologies if this is the wrong location (please move it if so), but perhaps one year (this year?) we can focus on artists in disciplines other than painting and sculpture for this? I know that a lot of the women in the Smithsonian American Art Museum's collection are represented in the Renwick, the

As mentioned by others, there are at least 2 ways of looking at this: go with Italian Women (focus on an important current issue, much like we did with Ukrainian Women in 2022); choose a broader geo topic, the more common WiR approach. Maybe we should decide on the approach first, but either way, I

Although it was my interest in the WikiDonne case that triggered my post on Italian women on the WIR talk page, I simply wished to highlight Italian women as a subject needing attention. Italy could, for example, be listed as our geofocus for February, together with the explanations I gave earlier:

Sorry I haven't responded to pings, real world is keeping me really busy and probably will through the end of February. That said, I'm working my way through WILPF activists, which usually lead me to the next one. I'm quite happy to work Italians into the focus of peace activists, but because my

2923:- I'd be happy with a more cautious approach, I just didn't want the topic to be lost as a suggestion. Perhaps a compromise would be to skip Geofocus for Feb, but then start with Mediterranean and move to other watery boundaries across the year (the Caspian Sea would be good to include too!) 6154:
One suggestion I'd give for making a redlist as a place to start is to use our existing articles on women authors and then snag all the books they've written. Not all of the books will be notable and have the sourcing available to make an article from, but it's a jumping off point to start.
4905:
Just got a reply from WMUK (went to part-time staff in-box) and they are on to it. I'm fairly certain its going ahead but it looks like in-person or hybrid will be its type. There will be a lot of on-line events so probable best to celebrate the location and advertise locally or for human

I can't find that comment, but I admit I did a lot of skimming through a somewhat nauseating discussion. I want to respect the wishes of our fellow contributors but I do think this issue is larger and more important than the individuals involved and we should take a public stance on it.

Our metrics used to include all articles related to women's representation (women's biographies, their works (e.g., the books they wrote), and issues pertaining to women (e.g., women's suffrage, women's health). I'd support whatever initiatives/campaigns others devise in this regard.
5291:
Could we add a reminder of the fact that both our overall WiR project and the #1day1woman explicitly include "articles on women and their works", so articles on women's books can be listed at #1day1woman? I think we all tend to think of WiR as being about women's biographies only.
3232:
Buried in those suggestions is one from me for Women whose Countries Share a Sea/Ocean e.g Women by the Mediterranean (or similar) would include France and Greece, but also Egpyt and Tunisia. You could do North Sea, Indian Ocean, Atlantic, Pacific, etc. Might be quite interesting.
2901:"Proportionally, Germany and France have significantly better coverage of women while little Sweden, with about a fifth of the population of Italy, has about two-thirds as many women's biographies." As the Geofocus slot is still empty, it would be easy to do something about it.-- 752:... I thought something like "Use the Find Link tool to de-orphan your article" is short and pithy...and/or reminding people to use "What links here" (?) (Newer users might not know – I didn't for longer than you would have thought, because the skin I was using was hiding it.) 6946:: I think it would be very useful to include the list, specifying that it was prepared by the New York Public Library. It provides many useful suggestions which are not obvious from our other lists. Unless you strongly object, I will go ahead and include it later today.-- 3786:
Thanks for all the work being done WRT March planning. I think the line-up is great. Regarding the question about what logo to use for the Art+Activism event, how about this one (rt-fem-logo-PH.png); it's colorful and it's wordless (other options would be fine, too).

In view of the discussions here and on the WIR talk page, I would be happy to prepare geofocus on Italian women but without specific reference to WikiDonne. Unless there are objections, I'll go ahead with this tomorrow, 25 January, in the hope that it is not too
5954:, I haven't really been involved in the "back end" of WIR previously so not sure how these things usually get pulled together, but let me know if there's anything I can help with that immediately springs to mind. Otherwise I'll keep an eye out for tasks. :) 4649:, but don't have the skill to load the whole book and strip out the photos. Anyone want to give it a go? Victuallers said the same, he can only clip one at a time. If no one has the ability to do the whole book, maybe we just note it on the editathon pages? 6050:. I was rather hoping someone would be clever enough to retrieve the redlinks from the list. Once you've sorted it out, it might be useful to post something on the main WiR talk page. The list actually came from the New York Public Library, not the NYT.-- 3172:
We're already more than halfway through the first month of the year and it's time, I feel, to start a discussion of this year's Geofocus. I note that ESEAP countries have been suggested for August, when Wikimania will be held in Singapore, facilitated by
6205:
I would be okay with that. It would certainly give us more time to ensure we have a more comprehensive redllist to use. And combining making articles on books with writers would make sense, since many of the authors of the books are also still redlinks.

It looks good. The thickness of the lines on the peace symbol are thinner than normal. The image covers peace well, but does it cover diplomacy? Is there a diplomacy symbol? Google images suggests hand shake or doves, doves also being a peace symbol...?

I fully agree we should devote attention to "Books by women". We used to include these in our metrics but now we seem only to be concerned with biographies. Perhaps we can start recording pertinent articles in a new listing. I'm sure

Don't have any help on NMWA though, their website is really lacking right now in terms of fullness of data. Even their regular collection search seems to be under construction, as many major works just aren't there when you search.
7134:: I was following the example of Folklore but I think you have a point. Maybe the safest way is simply to mention it twice as when I add articles to meetup pages I don't necessarily look at the introduction. I¨ll take care of it.-- 4286:
As for NMWA, I know we've done edit-a-thons there before, so I wonder if we have contacts that can help draw up a list of artists in the collection? I agree that the functionality of their website leaves quite a bit to be desired.
6255:
My list isn't finished yet. The link to the list of navbox templates which Rosiestep gave above could be very useful if someone had the energy (or could work out an automated way) to produce a list of those with any red links.

Thanks for the assist on the Renwick: when I posted this suggestion SAAM was still using its old online catalog, and I'm honestly a little bit at sea with the new one, still. Hopefully it will get a bit more user-friendly with

September makes a lot of sense. With more time, we might end up with more CS redlists (or 1 very long redlist), e.g., poetry collections by women, novels by women, non-fiction books by women, books by pseudonymous women, etc.

Sorry to pass the buck on this, but personally I don't have any feelings one way or the other, I just volunteered to run Fountain. I'll leave it to others to see how this fits into the scope of WIR's planned calendar.
4803:
Thats what I needed. I just need to find out that we have a trainer. I'm ill at the moment, so I'm hoping that WMUK or our followers come through. Meeting (and training) Caoilfhionn Gallagher should be worth the trip.

Truly, I'm fine with whatever is decided here. But to clarify why I'm bringing it up now is because I was pinged today on Telegram asking if WiR would link our Folklore meetup page to the main Folklore page on Meta..

Really like this but it's rather long. If it fits in as it is, that's fine. Otherwise, how about "Mobile readers may only see the article "lead" – take some time to make it shine! Include something to keep people
6455:: Now that we've identified lots of red link sources, I agree with Rosie that we should go ahead with this in April. I'm pretty busy today but tomorrow I'd be only too happy to put together a meetup page.-- 6241:. Would it be useful for Women in Red to join the Every Book Its Reader campaign or should we just include a link in our April invitation? It certainly looks as if we already have a number of enthusiasts.-- 7020:
Well I'll have to find at least one to create, otherwise I'll break my almost-complete track record (I missed out on Ada Lovelace Day, I seem to remember) of contributing something to every WiR editathon!

It would be great if you added an event/program to the campaign page. Then encourage people to add themselves to the event/program, if they wish? Again, thank you for supporting #EveryBookItsReader!

Wow, we already have the redlists! They're great, especially the novels one which includes the "site links" column so can be sorted to flag up titles which already have articles on other wikis.
2284:(14 articles). It would make sense to me if WIR's Folklore coincided with meta's, i.e. ran for two months starting in February. As well as the 2023 page on Meta, there is also one on en.Wiki, 2050:. You were also quick on the draw. As we are promoting Peace and Democracy, it was simply a matter of practising what we preach. It seems to have worked as I haven't received any complaints.-- 6718:
As you would be aware, many of us edit across all the Events and elsewhere. The Dashboard will capture all our edits if we sign on there. If you are OK with this, I'm happy to sign on to it.

I would welcome comments from other contributors on this as it seems to be holding up the preparation of our invitation, which should be distributed within the next two or three days. (cc
6093: 2748:, that we may want to run a focus on Italy, as a gesture of solidarity to WikiDonne?
