Meanwhile, on the other side of Plymouth, the Stonehouse Pool Improvement Company had been formed to create a quay that large vessels could use at all states of the tide. It proposed to build a railway connection to Devonport station which the LSWR agreed to rent, and this opened for freight traffic on 1 March 1886. From 1904 to 1910 transatlantic passengers joined fast London boat trains at the quay. 432: 384: 1753: 1746: 1574: 1420: 2800: 2504: 2411: 1687: 1479: 1427: 659:. From here to Yeoford it follows river valleys, but the next stage of the route, through Okehampton and Lydford, takes it around the northern edge of Dartmoor. Meldon Summit to the west of Meldon Junction was the highest point on the line. Indeed, it was the highest point on the whole of the Southern Railway, at 950 feet (290 m) above sea level. 2790: 2742: 2614: 2570: 2470: 2357: 2313: 1874: 1647: 1413: 1185: 974: 868: 469: 237: 2782: 2497: 2404: 2291: 2161: 2077: 2063: 2019: 2005: 1852: 1830: 1783: 1705: 1542: 1486: 1457: 1393: 1369: 1192: 1029: 1015: 981: 861: 2857: 2807: 2749: 2070: 2012: 1739: 1665: 1657: 1639: 1582: 1566: 1178: 1022: 967: 839: 2838: 2715: 2678: 2621: 2168: 1921: 1896: 1695: 1612: 1347: 1300: 1156: 945: 2708: 2671: 2440: 2433: 2379: 2335: 2269: 2247: 2225: 2195: 2188: 2124: 1928: 1805: 1713: 1514: 760: 2815: 2592: 2548: 2477: 2041: 1247: 1222: 788: 2526: 2131: 2099: 1977: 1322: 1275: 1128: 1103: 1078: 1053: 923: 898: 814: 515:
