According to one theory, the legend is related to the Å ubić family tradition and political propaganda, possibly with the final intention of becoming a new royal dynasty. The myth of the "Curse of King Zvonimir" according to which Zvonimir cursed the Croats that will not have anymore a lord of their native language/nation yet forever will serve one of a foreign language/nation, which happened for almost a thousand years, is based on the legend of his assassination.
