While she was a doctoral candidate, she was also Administrative Chair of the Department of Nursing Education at St. John's. On August 1, 1968, after completing her doctorate, she became Dean of the Niagara University College of Nursing, a post she held for seven years, until 1975. In that role she also did individual and group psychological counseling. In 1972 she was elected President of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. That same year she raised 1.2 million for a building for the nursing school, and she worked on its design, which the College and University Conference later cited for excellence. She received the President's Medal from Niagara university in 1975, and resigned that same year to go to Rhinebeck, New York, to spend one year leading a child guidance clinic.
