I have checked the book by Martin Pugh which is cited and have found and added the page reference. The figure Pugh gives is not ÂŁ315 but ÂŁ15, so I have corrected it to that. I am afraid this is a poor page which few serious editors seem to take trouble with.

A quote in this article from a book by Martin Pugh states average pay increased from ÂŁ8 per week in 1951 to ÂŁ315 in 1961, that figure is extremely high. Unable to confirm that the quote itself is correct, the figure (ÂŁ315) is most certainly incorrect.
