Herrschaft über einen großen Teil
Ostfrieslands ausgedehnt und damit den Grundstein für die politische Einheit dieser Landschaft gelegt. Der letzte dieser Familie, Ocke II., verlor am 28. Oktober 1427 in der Schlacht auf den wilden Äckern (nördlich von Oldeborg) gegen seinen Widersacher Focko Ukena seine Herrschaft und seine Freiheit. Nachfolger waren wenig später die Cirksena aus Greetsiel, die im Jahre 1464 als Grafen vom Deutschen Kaiser mit ganz Ostfriesland belehnt worden sind. Die in der Gemeinde Südbrookmerland im Zuge der Gebietsreform im Jahre 1972 aufgegangene alte Gemeinde Oldeborg hat diesen Adler in ihrem Gemeindewappen geführt.
